报告人简介
Kay S. Faaberg, Professor of Virology
Dr. Faaberg is a virologist at the USDA national animal disease center(NADC). Prior to that, she was a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities while also serving as section head of Molecular Diagnostics of the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Her lab mainly focuses on the molecular biology and pathogenesis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), the most devastating virus to the worldwide swine industry. Her lab has made many pioneering studies on a variety of aspects of PRRSV, including the first description of North American prototype VR-2332, discovery of PRRSV recombination and evolution, identification of PRRSV defective RNAs, development of the first infectious cDNA clone for type II PRRSV, and the report of the emergence of PRRSV MN184 strains and the derivative NADC30 strains. Her seminal work also includes the dissection of the biological functions of PRRSV nsp2 in in virus replication and pathogenesis.
